Warning… Danger Will Robinson!

I know that this is not wedding related but as there are no men on this page, I feel sort of liberated in opening up about this topic.

I was put on the pill from the age of 13! Shock, horror. Not for any reason other than the 4 or 5 ovarian cysts I had at the age of 12, which resulted in hospitalisation.
First, remember I am now 35, this means that the pill they gave me didn’t have a pretty name like Jasmine and wasn’t gentle on my body. They were heavier/stronger pills and they made me  depressed.

At the age of 18, they put me on Depo-Provera and I was on it for the next 14 years. No question, no review, no advice. So then when I saw a doctor who told me that being on it for longer than 2 years in a row without review could cause me to be infertile, I was a tad pissed off.

Then they put me on Implanon… now girls, if you only listen to one piece of advice when it comes to my blog it is NEVER go on Implanon.

Every single one of my friends that has been on Implanon HATED IT! It makes you angry, short tempered and makes you feel a tad nuts. Let’s be honest, you ARE actually acting nuts when you are on it. My suggestion: Seriously. Stay away from it!

Here is a list of side effects as listed on their website:  undesirable effects related to the use of IMPLANON included increased appetite, affect lability, depressed mood, nervousness, libido decreased, dizziness, hot flush, abdominal pain, nausea, flatulence, alopecia, dysmenorrhoea, ovarian cyst, implant site pain, implant site reaction, fatigue, influenza like illness, pain, and weight decreased.”

I honestly had a few of those symptoms. I know side effects come with any medication but I am finding that more and more women are telling me of their trip into crazy town whilst they were on Implanon.

I have now had mine out for 1 ½ months and OMG. It’s like getting my life back! I feel like I am returning to a state of calm. I know that for those who actually know me, calm isn’t the best description of my personality but I do now feel relatively “normal”.

Please, for not just your own peace of mind but for the sanity of those around you, find a better option than Implanon.

Crazy women

Invitations are soul destroying

Well, I might be going a little overboard with that statement but the whole process of deciding who to invite and who to remove from the list is the biggest headache I have had so far with this wedding.

If you don’t know me personally, I am a people-pleaser and I want to keep EVERYONE happy. But I can’t.  I would love to invite everyone. But I am not able too.

After a big discussion with my Matron of Honour and my Fiancé, who have opposing opinions, I think I have decided to keep both of them happy and do both (do you see the common theme here?)

So my question to you… Am I doing the right thing?

So I am now thinking I will invite people to come and check out the wedding (which is being held in a pretty cool location and has its own bar on premises) to keep those who can’t wait to toast my nuptials happy and then I am organising an after-party! This is for those friends who we just can’t invite to the reception but who, we know just want to come and enjoy a few drinks and celebrate what will be a very lovely day with us.

So… is it wrong to do this?

I know it is my wedding and in theory I can do whatever I want but in reality, I care what people think of me and never want to hurt them or disappoint them so I definitely do not want to send out an invitation to an after-party if it will offend that person.

After party fun

Disclaimer, this is not a photo of me or any of my friends however, I did “borrow” it from a dear friend called GOOGLE

I think I am getting a dress-ache!

To start, with I need to say…I feel so sorry for my bridesmaids.

EVERY WEEK I come up with a new wedding dress for me and then we have to re-think their possible bridesmaids dresses.

Currently, I have 3 potential wedding dresses. The final decision will depend on my weight and how I am feeling closer to the date – as I plan on ordering it in December.

Do I go cute? Sweet? Sexy? Big? Long? Short? Off-white? White? White and Black? Black? Red? Long veil? Short veil? No veil? Heels? Wedges? Flats?!!!!

HOW have millions of women around the world been not only able to make up their mind but stick to that one option?

HELP ME fellow brides-to-be or please speak up if you have already had your wedding and are now the wise woman I need to learn from. Please help as I  truly have absolutely no idea what I am doing!

I still find it hilarious that I booked my wedding and reception venue OVER A YEAR AGO and didn’t think twice about booking them. They were simple choices! SO WHY IS THIS SO HARD?

Please give me advice!! All I want is for Guy (my fiance) to look at me as if I am the most beautiful woman in the world, and with love in his eyes.

Ohhh by the way, please check out my new Facebook page Countdown to becoming a Diva Bride

Fad or bloody FANTASTIC??

WOW, it has only been 8 days and I already have HUGE results that I can’t wait to tell you about but first…

When I was in Sydney in June 2011, I bought this lovely red dress that I could easily wear in a corporate environment but also go out to dinner in. It was one of those criss-cross dresses that hides parts of your body that you want hidden but shows off your curves. Well, I bought a LARGE and it didn’t fit me, sadly I couldn’t do it up by about 1 ½ cm.  I convinced myself to buy it as I already knew I had to lose weight for my wedding so I might as well buy it and look forward to wearing it soon.

Just like the dress I bought

It is now around 1 year and 3 ½ months later and much to my disappointment I have still never worn that dress and it’s currently sitting in my cupboard waiting for its big unveiling.

The funny thing is, even though I didn’t lose weight, it wasn’t due to lack of trying!  I have tried ladybug shakes, Okinawa Diet, Clean and Lean, Paleo, no carbs, no fat, lots of animal fat, and lots of protein, Dukkan, vegetarian, fasting, juice diets, $150 exercise pants that burn calories, and the HCG diet, all in the last year and a half. With each program I was super excited to start off and then about a month in, I hadn’t lost weight OR even worse, in addition I was craving carbs for 2 months and had lost my ability to concentrate or even think!

Please don’t think that I am silly enough to just rely on dieting. I was exercising and exercising….at one stage I even ran 25kms in 2 days and injured the tendon that holds up the arch of your foot. This kept me off my feet and not training for another 2 months which is demotivating and super frustrating.

So here I am today, only FOUR months out from my wedding from and actually seeing results for the first time and feeling bloody fabulous for doing it this way!

As of today, after only EIGHT DAYS of Isagenix:

I have lost 3.5kgs BUT even better, 18cm!

AMAZING… and the part I love is that I don’t feel tired, I don’t feel run down. I actually have more energy and a clearer mind than I have been used to in quite a while.

I am so used to getting BRAIN FADE at 2pm and craving snacks like packets of chips or cheese and crackers but I am not getting any cravings. INFACT, I don’t feel Ineed to eat the recommended snacks as I am so satisfied.

I am also currently only walking/running my two dogs for 30 minutes a day except for Sunday when we decided to walk the dogs from our house to the city which was 8.5kms. The funny thing is I have NEVER had the energy or inclination to do that on a SUNDAY of all days.

So far, I have nothing but praises for this program but we will see if it turns out to be BLOODY fantastic or just another FAD to add to the list.

By the way, I would like to give a shout out to all those people that either have come up and offered me their praise and support of my blog and to those who are already noticing a difference in the way I look and taking the time to make a comment. It really does mean a lot and I hope to keep you entertained along my journey.

My weighty life

4 years ago I was diagnosed with Graves disease and hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid). I was 55 kgs and looking very gaunt and thin, I was fainting on a regular basis, and was extremely shaky and light headed just to name a few symptoms.  Luckily enough I found a couple of great doctors who, within 3 months of diagnosis, decided to treat my condition immediately due to its severity, with radioactive iodine therapy.

When diagnosed with Grave's disease

This therapy isn’t as aggressive as it sounds, it literally involves taking a tablet and staying away from people for 72 hours…but you remain slightly radioactive for months to come. It’s funny, I always joked that I wanted to have a baby at the time, to see if it turned out like spider man!

Slowly over the next 2 years, I noticed my weight gain but as I was happily in an awesome relationship, I didn’t care very much.  See, I don’t believe that this weight gain was due to the fact that I now had hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid), it was more that no human should eat foods in the sheer volume I was eating them in.

I am one of those weird people who has absolutely NO PROBLEM eating a curry for breakfast (it’s actually a pretty tasty way to start the day), followed by a big bowl of pasta for lunch and chinese for dinner accompanied by a bottle of wine. Literally, with an overactive thyroid, I could eat and drink as much as I wanted and keep losing weight. Now don’t go calling me lucky as clearly the lack of weight might sound good in theory but in reality, I wasn’t anywhere close to healthy.

I went from one extreme to the next which tends to be the theme for my ALL or NOTHING life.

So after years and years of gaining weight, here I am, 84kgs and desperate for change. Beyond the weight loss, I desperately need a clearer head, more energy and to be able to handle stress better.

After talking to a friend of mine on Facebook, she recommended a program called Isagenix for a 30 day challenge and I accepted. What’s not to lose? The program costs $11 a day and you don’t spend any other money except for buying ingredients for your one daily meal, which I save up for dinner with my fiancé. It is sort of a shake-based diet but I will explain in more detail later down the track. All I can say for now is that I have completed 4 days of this challenge and so far, I am never feeling hungry, I even struggle to finish my generous lunchtime shake and the other big thing I have noticed… I don’t crave unhealthy foods! I normally crave fried foods but now, all I want for dinner is something super healthy and fresh-tasting.

I will leave any commentary about this program until I have completed at least one week but if it is this easy now, I don’t see myself having a problem anytime soon.

If you have any questions about isagenix – email me on and I will forward some details.
